Associate in Science

*YCCC’s Nursing Program is a COMPETITIVE PROGRAM with 32 SEATS available for for each cohort. 

Enter the exciting field of nursing. YCCC’s new nursing program will prepare students to become registered nurses at the associate degree level. Registered nurses are a vital part of healthcare, administering compassionate care in a variety of medical settings. After completing the program, students will be able to take the NCLEX Registered Nurse (RN) licensure examination and obtain employment.

*Acceptance into the Nursing program is on a competitive basis. Successful completion of the prerequisites and admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the Nursing program. Students who are working on their prerequisites should apply to the Health Studies/Pre-Nursing Program. Upon acceptance into the Nursing program, students will receive an acceptance letter listing their start date and will receive additional information about starting the Nursing program.

    EARLY DECISION DEADLINE: March 1, 2025
    To be considered for Early Decision, a completed YCCC Nursing application (all admissions requirements including official transcript(s) with prerequisite courses completed with final grades of “B-” or higher) will need to be received by the Office of Admissions no later than March 1st.

    FINAL DEADLINE: May 20, 2025
    Applications received with prerequisite coursework in progress for the Spring 2025 semester, will be reviewed after the Spring semester has ended. For those applicants who are completing prerequisite coursework outside of YCCC, the Office of Admissions will need to receive your official college transcript(s) with final grade(s) listed no later than May 20, 2025. All other admissions requirements must be received by the Office of Admissions no later than March 1, 2025.

    All accepted Nursing students are required to attend a MANDATORY information session. Sessions are held via ZOOM and registration is required.

Courses

The nursing program curriculum provides a sound theoretical base of nursing practice. Students will participate in classroom and clinical experiences during each of the four semesters in the program. Clinical experiences will be offered in Southern Maine.


Prepare to apply

Students who are interested in the nursing program should take prerequisite courses. They will be placed in the Health Studies/Pre-Nursing program until they are ready to apply for the Nursing program. Upon acceptance into the Nursing program, students will receive an acceptance letter listing their start date and their nursing faculty advisor. Each cohort has seat for 32 students. The 2024 application is closed. The Fall 2025 application is coming soon.

Admission Requirements

  • Possess a high-school diploma, GED certificate OR HiSET
  • Achieve a B- in ALL prerequisite courses:
    • Anatomy & Physiology I w/ Lab (BIO 126/BIO 127)
    • College Composition (ENG 101)*
    • Quantitative Reasoning or Statistics (MAT 118 or MAT 124)
    • Introduction to Psychology (PSY 101)*

Additional courses (completed with a final grade of “C” or higher) recommended before starting the Nursing Program:

  • Psychology Across the Lifespan (PSY 210)
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology II w/Lab (BIO 136/BIO 137)
  • Microbiology w/Lab (BIO 230/BIO 231)
  • Oral Communications (SPE 101)
  • Multicultural America (HUM 201) OR Ethics and Contemporary Society (PHI 102)

* AP and/or CLEP credits will be accepted for College Composition, Introduction to Psychology, and Psychology Across the Lifespan. Math and Science coursework (prerequisite courses and additional courses) must be completed within seven years (January 1, 2018 to May 20, 2025). TEAS test scores must be from the past 3 years (Feb. 2022 to Feb. 2025). All prerequisites for Fall 2025 application cycle needs to be completed by May 20, 2025. Applicants are responsible for ensuring all prerequisites are appropriately met. Additional Program Requirements and Considerations:

  • YCCC’s clinical practicum sites are located throughout Southern Maine. Nursing students are required to provide their own transportation to and from these sites.
  • YCCC Nursing students are required to have their own laptop for coursework on campus, at practicum sites and at home. Additional information will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

Students will be able to:

  • Provide compassionate nursing care to patients, families, groups, populations, and communities from diverse backgrounds in a variety of settings.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with diverse patients and members of the healthcare team to promote shared-decision making.
  • Utilize the information and patient care technology to manage care, support decision-making, and minimize error while employing effective use of resources.
  • Evaluate and integrate current evidence with clinical judgment to provide safe, quality care.
  • Integrate professional behaviors and leadership skills in the provision of professional nursing care delivery.
  • Use quality measures and indicators to evaluate patient outcomes and the effects of changes in the delivery of care.

Program Outcomes

  1. Licensure examination NCLEX pass rate is 80% or greater for all first-time test takers.
  2. At least 75% of entering students complete the Nursing Program within three years.
  3. At least 80% of graduates report employment in nursing within six months of graduation

Careers

Nursing program graduates may pursue a career as a registered nurse in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to pediatric nursing, gerontological nursing, primary care nursing, cardiac vascular nursing, pain management nursing, and psychiatric nursing.

Meet the Faculty

  • Tonianne Motta

    Tonianne Motta

    Nursing Faculty

    Motta is an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) dual board-certified nurse practitioner, with certifications in both family medicine and hospice and palliative care. She began her nursing career through an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program, where she gained her initial clinical experience on an inpatient oncology unit, earning a chemo-biotherapy certification. Motta later transitioned to roles in inpatient hospitalist and palliative medicine departments, where she expanded her expertise and deepened her commitment to patient care.
